If you had the birthday celebration the day after thanksgiving, it would be likely that a lot of people in the family would be able to come and make a big deal out of it. OR you could have a special birthday brunch, birthday dessert session or something on the day. Play a couple games to make sure that they know it is for the birthday, not the holiday.

Goodluck!heidi @ ggiphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05245994200237421760noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1702962144574275015.post-31704524188572965192007-11-08T01:00:00.000-05:002007-11-08T01:00:00.000-05:00I don't know about any sites, but I'm glad you ask...I don't know about any sites, but I'm glad you asked!
I hated having my birthday close to Christmas too, I bet it's really hard when it's as close as your kids.Jenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07363556144865595548noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1702962144574275015.post-83997550213294911102007-11-07T22:55:00.000-05:002007-11-07T22:55:00.000-05:00Mmmmm, my idea of cake making is going to the stor...Mmmmm, my idea of cake making is going to the store to order it, good luck though!! :)Dawnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13786561120294815684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1702962144574275015.post-17204009725809576682007-11-07T21:19:00.000-05:002007-11-07T21:19:00.000-05:00I have to agree with "t" and "queen"... My birthda...I have to agree with "t" and "queen"... My birthday is Christmas day and I really loved that even when family had come from far away we would celebrate ON my birthday. My mom would clear away all the Christmas stuff, and then she'd say something like, "... and now it's time for birthday." My cake was NOT a Christmas cake, and heaven forbid if someone wrap my birthday presents in Christmas paper! My mom had a fit! :-)
Also, being on Christmas I know what you mean about friends being gone to have a party... so mom would have my party often on the last day of school before Christmas break. After school, friends would just ride home with us or meet at my house and we'd have it right then. That way if they were headed out of town that day they'd still stick around for an hour or so for me to have a party. :-)
Hope this helps!Reformed Gritshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09181676644696623492noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1702962144574275015.post-44049743226612647652007-11-07T18:10:00.000-05:002007-11-07T18:10:00.000-05:00I'm not sure I would have a holiday birthday cake....I'm not sure I would have a holiday birthday cake.

I have a friend who has a December 27th Birthday and she can't stand having to share her birthday with the holiday. She always felt gypted (I don't know if that is the correct spelling).

A birthday is a pretty important thing to a kid. For them - it IS a holiday.Marlene McGarrityhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00732364637814124011noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1702962144574275015.post-53992147317013058482007-11-07T17:11:00.000-05:002007-11-07T17:11:00.000-05:00Having a birthday close to a holiday myself I thin...Having a birthday close to a holiday myself I think I can safely say that I don't recommend this approach. Do not make their birthday cakes coordinate with the holiday unless they A) are too young to care or B) request it themselves.

One time I requested that my birthday cake reflect the nearby holiday and went for a seasonal party. But every other birthday cake until I turned 18 years old was a special theme that I wanted. It helped to make the day more special and not feel lumped in with the holiday.

Of course, it would be pretty cool to use more seasonal colors to go along with your child's favorite characters or a cake shaped in the number of their new age. Maybe some snowflakes dancing behind Dora the Explorer or Elmo playing in a pumpkin patch.T with Honeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13870996927675120152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1702962144574275015.post-71706263693844926712007-11-07T16:13:00.000-05:002007-11-07T16:13:00.000-05:00I posted about holiday birthdays today, and have g...I posted about holiday birthdays today, and have gotten some wonderful responses: http://watibg.blogspot.com/2007/11/works-for-you-wednesday-2.html*carrie*https://www.blogger.com/profile/10545859613596796648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1702962144574275015.post-44614209010996203742007-11-07T14:43:00.000-05:002007-11-07T14:43:00.000-05:00My son's birthday is right before Christmas, so I ...My son's birthday is right before Christmas, so I understand! I have done a snowman cake - I just bought a form and then decorated it with colored frosting. One year, I made cupcakes like snowballs. We have decided to celebrate our son's birthday two weeks early so it doesn't conflict so much with Christmas. It's just a day right?Heather https://www.blogger.com/profile/03415448097239579759noreply@blogger.com
