I hurt myself!

Yesterday, I was making this wonderful Pumpkin Sheet Cake from Tammy's Recipes and I hurt myself. I was getting out a small Pyrex dish to put my milk in for the frosting and as I grabbed them, I store them on top of each other, they fell out. I tried to catch them and as I caught the first one, the second one broke the first one and cut my pinkie finger as I caught it. It really did not hurt as I cut it and it really did not even bleed heavily at all, but I could tell it was a deep cut. So, I called my dh and we went to the doctor. I told them I wanted a nurse to check it before I wasted my time to make sure I really needed to get stitched up. I do not have insurance and I was dreading the bill! The nurse was a nurse practitioner and she was really rude. Like she did not believe me that I had hurt it the way I had? Then she said, "When was your last tetanus shot?" I said, "I really do not know." She said something like, I figured. Just so rude! So anyways, I finally get to see the head doctor at the clinic. He was really good! He said it was borderline if it needed stitches and that he felt it would be fine if I just got it glued up. I also had to have a splint put on it so it would not move because the cut is right in the joint. While i was there I found out about another problem I have that I am not too happy about. The doctor wanted me to come back in three days, but I barely could pay the office visit fee so I know that I will not have the money for another visit fee so soon. So, what do I do? Look for another doctor who will charge my doctor visit fee until I can pay them or what(and I would need several visits!)? I am really at a loss! I know what I have needs to be treated and could become life threatening, but I really do not have the money to go so I just will have to ponder that. Oh and since Granny had the kids, dh and I used the giftcard I won fron ZollyZoo! Jenn let me have an Applebees instead of The Olive Garden because the nearest Olive Garden is like 3 hours away. Dh and I had this fabulous steak dinner! We only had to pay like $5. It was so wonderful to get out and have a fabulous meal! Thanks Jenn!

And this is why I don't like the American system! People like you who need medical attention but cannot afford it, fall through the cracks!
I hope your finger heals quickly and that you're able to figure out how to get to a doctor about your other problem . . . I want you around long enough to hopefully meet you THIS side of Heaven! :)

Oh no! Ouch! I hope you can find a way to get into another dr soon for your other problem. Yay for getting a nice dinner out.

See if you can find a low cost or low income clinic in your area. It might take a little asking around to find it, but maybe even a nurse at your doctor's office can tell you.

Our insurance is doubling our copays for next year in addition to raising our rates by 35%, so I feel like I can sortof understand what you are going through.

So sorry about your injury (ouch!!) and your other health problems! *hugs* Hope you heal quickly and can find a way to see a doctor for the other issue.

I saw that you "won" over at Zollyzoo -- glad you were able to have a dinner out; how fun!

Ouch! Hope your finger gets better soon. I was going to suggest the same thing that Heidi did- see if you can find a low cost clinic in your area. (Well, at least low cost compared to the regular cost of a visit! Not sure if any health care is low cost these days!!)

You've won as runner up for my book give-away! Stop on over my blog to see what you've won (when you have a chance).
